Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Dongfengling of Macala, Riwoqê, Qamdo County, Tibet. It was named by the No. 1 Geological Party of Tibetan Bureau of Geology in 1971


Lithology and Thickness

A suite of carbonate rock sediments. Lower part: gray to gray-black moderately thick to thick-bedded compact limestone, clayey limestone and crystalline limestone, intercalated with carbonaceous and sandy limestones and sandstone; 274.8 m thick. Upper part: gray to gray-black moderately thick to thick-bedded limestone, crystalline limestone, bioclastic limestone and chert nodules-bearing compact limestone, intercalated with dolomitic, carbonaceous and calcareous limestones; 449.4 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Sanhuhe Fm

Upper contact

Disconformable contact with the overlying Aoqu Fm

Regional extent

Besides outcropping at Riwoqê of Qamdo, it is widespread in the Qingnidong area, Jomda County, Tibet.

Fossils

Lower part: abundant Corals Yuanophyllum kansuense, Arachnolasma sinense, Kueichouphyllum sinense, K. heishihkuanense, and Lithostrotion junceum tenuicolumellata; Brachiopods Gigantoproductus edelburgensis, Striatifera striata and Echnoconchus punctates.

Upper part: Corals Aulina carinata subsp. Chui, Yuanophyllum kansuense, Kueichouphyllum sinense and Lithostrotion decipiens; Brachiopods Gigantoproductus edelburgensis, Gondolina weiningensis and Striatifera striata; Fusulinid Eostaffella galinae,
